“It’s just a heart”

Brilliantly intense, inspiring to hear an artist speak so passionately! So real. I yearn for this

Luc Tuymans..... What???

The Secretary of State 2005 oil on canvas, 18 x 24-1/4 inches David Zwirner Gallery

For a while i’ve had a hard time wrapping my head around the hype. Sure, a couple of his paintings are interesting, and probably have achieved what he intended. But for the most part, they are shallow and fail to resonate on any level of consciousness. One particular painting (of the former Secretary of State) particularly irks me for its shallow, amateurish qualities. I’ve seen better portraiture posted on deviantart.com by high schoolers!

And i know that it’s unfair to judge an artist by one work alone, and possibly, if i were to see his work in person it would make all the difference. But at this point, after browsing through what is available online and reading tidbits of his thoughts, i’m just not feeling it. i’m just not convinced by it. And, not that i could anyway- i wouldn’t buy it.

For anyone who breaks their ipod into a million pieces… you now have no excuse not to fix it.

Martin Wittfooth - Behemoth, oil on linen - from his “Tempest” show opening on February 13th at the CoproGallery in Santa Monica, California

[via PopDrawer]

An obviously illustrative fine artist, some of his works allow the viewer to delve far more deeply than others. What’s interesting about this, is that the problem is so delicate to address. While rendering every object and painting realistic, tangible scenes can turn the concept into a one-liner…. leaving ambiguity can sometimes appear to be a cop-out (leaving any painting unfinished automatically gives it depth, as an example).

Many of his scenes- such as this one above -portray a climax from which we could easily fill in the blanks of before and after.

The lack of mystery kills it.

Therefore the most effective pieces are those set seconds before the action; that static moment of loaded preparation to attack the unexpected.

This is sick. Graffiti artist Alexandre Orion adds a creative twist on tagging REVERSE graffiti! Using a cleaning solution and some rags he turns a polluted filth ridden underpass into art. The best part is… TECHNICALLY what hes doing isnt illegal! Police try to write him a ticket but he gets off clean ( pun not intended…) Check out the video

Seen this work before, but not this vid. This kid has patience, my style would have changed half way through drawing all of those dang skulls.
